known colloquially as “the encaustic bible,” and the Joanne Mattera Art Blog
which has developed a dedicated following for its coverage of art and artists
in New York City and elsewhere. This past December, at the invitation of
Art Miami, she organized and moderated the panel, “Beyond Basic Blogging:
Carving Our Niche in the Blogosphere.” Ms. Mattera is a visiting lecturer

Patterned Tactic(s) Willow Community Gallery
January 30 to March 12
Opening reception Saturday, February 6, 2-4pm
Patterned Tactic(s) brings together the work of
abstract painter Megan McNaught, and sculptor Christina Pitsch. The artists
are linked by their use of pattern and repetition both in the process of making,
and in the finished imagery of the work. The show consists of free hanging life
size clear deer sculptures surrounded by large-scale geometric net drawings.
The work is striking because it is inherently complex,
yet the results are quiet and deceivingly minimal in nature.
Girl's Inc. of Lynn
Hartman Leigh Children's Gallery proudly presents
Photovoice: Girls’ Vision, Girls’ Voices
February 4 to March 12
Opening reception Saturday, February 6, 2-4pm
Photovoice: Girl's Vision, Girl's Voices, a program run through Girls Inc., was started in 1991 in a small village in China where women were given cameras to photograph what they liked and didn’t like about their village. They wrote stories to go with their photos and sent them to government officials. Lynn's Girls Inc. participants have participated in the program and through their photography have had a chance to show adult leaders what they like and don’t like about their community, neighborhood or school.
Also included in this exhibition is work created during a ten week series of skill based art workshops. The workshops were designed to expose participants to basic art concepts through the exploration of traditional and alternative art forms. Participants also built confidence towards creating art and learned that art is a form of self expression.
Artist Dan Nakajima's Exhibition Benefits Heifer International
The Holiday Spirit Is Alive and Well at LynnArts' Hartman Leigh Children's Gallery
Holiday spirit is alive and well at LynnArts. Dan Nakajima, our first young solo artist to exhibit at the Hartman Leigh Children's Gallery celebrated a sell out show at his December 5th opening reception, held at the same time as our Fabulous Holiday Show and Sale opening.
One of the main goals of the gallery is to foster inter-generational interaction between young and professional artists. Artist Dan Nakajima and professional artist mentor Diane Bigda enjoy a unique creative relationship which extends beyond the goal of the gallery and illustrates the positive influence of inter-generational artistic collaboration. Diane provides Dan with instruction, resources and inspiration, and in return, Dan provides Diane with youthful insight which keeps her own work direct and honest.
Dan was chosen as our first young solo artist for the quality, beauty and playfulness of his work, as well as the way in which his relationship with Diane captures the spirit of the gallery's mission.
Dan, Diane and his family have decided to donate all of the proceeds of this sell out exhibition to Heifer International, an organization which provides livestock to third world families in need. Dan is now taking orders for prints of his work to help raise money for his chosen cause.
LynnArts extends our gratitude and warm wishes to Dan, Diane, Dan's amazing family and those who attended the opening reception and made it a success.
Those interested in sponsoring an exhibition or exhibiting student work in the Hartman Leigh gallery should contact gallery coordinator, Jocelyn Almy-Testa via email. Our next exhibition showcases the art work of Girl's Inc., opening on February 6th!
